I Will Search for You

Daily Devotional – Sunday, December 8, 2024
For this is what the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them.
Ezekiel 34:11 (NKJV)

The thirty-fourth chapter of Ezekiel is a harsh indictment of Israel’s leaders for disregarding the people they lead and opens the chapter. The sheep had been left to wander, get lost, and suffer because of them. However, God assures us that He Himself will step in, for He is the real Shepherd. He will pursue His flock with an unfailing and perfect love.

I Will Look After My Sheep

The personal promise made by God in verse 11, “I myself will search for my sheep and look after them“, is especially powerful. It provides solace in a world where so many people are disoriented, perplexed, and aimless. It serves as a reminder that God assumes personal responsibility for His people’s care rather than merely assigning it to others. He proactively pursues the broken, the wounded, and the lost.

The Lord’s promise is a hope for the present and the future, not merely a past deed. Jesus Christ later appears on earth and declares, “I am the Good Shepherd” who also dies for His sheep. God’s promise to seek for and save the lost is fulfilled in Christ.

I Will Search for You

The Lord is always searching for us, regardless of how far we have wandered or our feelings of estrangement from God. He pursues us because He loves us unconditionally, not because we deserve it. God wants us to show others, especially those who are lost, in pain, or in need, as a response to His love for us.

Prayer
I am grateful that you, my Good Shepherd, because despite my wanderings, you search for me with grace and love.
