If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.
Romans 12:18 (NKJV)
Today’s key text reveals a powerful fact on peace in our relationships. Although it is not always under our control, our duty is to live at peace with all people. We are commanded to make every effort to promote coexistence.
Live Peaceably With all Men
Peace is showing the love of Christ in difficult situations, choosing reconciliation over retaliation, and addressing people with dignity, modesty, and patience. It is not about surrendering our morals or avoiding controversy at all costs.
Even when others might be hostile against them, the Roman Christians were expected to handle hardship with love. and to behave in ways that mirrored Christ’s peace. As we negotiate potentially tense or contentious situations, the lesson also applies to us.
Though it does require us to be forgiving, understanding, and ready to work toward reconciliation, living at peace does not always entail agreement.
As Much as It Depends on You…
Does serenity seem far away to some of the individuals in your life? Is there an unresolved dispute? Seek the Holy Spirit’s direction on how to initiate the process of reconciliation. It can call for a straightforward act of kindness, a sincere apology, or a readiness to listen.
Although we have no influence over other people’s reactions, we do have power over our own. Jesus is the source of true peace. He has made peace between us and God possible. Therefore, by modeling the life of Jesus, we can coexist with others even when it feels difficult.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, please enable me to contribute. to the pursuit of peace, even in the face of difficulty. Help me to reconcile with those I am currently not at peace with.
