These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 (NKJV)
We can occasionally feel overtaken by adversity, whether it be sickness, financial difficulties, strained relations, or faith battles. Jesus made no promises about a trouble-free life for those who followed Him. Rather, he assured us that we can face troubles cheerfully if we trust in Him.
You Will Have Tribulations
Jesus prepared His disciples for the pain and persecution they would experience, but instead of leaving them in despair, He affirmed that He had already secured their victory through His upcoming messianic death. Jesus defeated sin, death, and all the powers of evil through His death and resurrection.
Earthly peace is ephemeral and contingent on various factors. However, Christ’s peace is unchangeable. When difficulties arise, rely on Him by praying and reading His Word. Claim His promises when you feel like giving up.
Why You Can Face Troubles Cheerfully
Jesus encourages us to have hope and to maintain our faith because He has already triumphed. As you face the day and its challenges, let the peace of God fill your heart. After all, you know how the story will end: Jesus will triumph, and so will you.
In essence, troubles are inevitable but short-lived. Jesus does not want us to live in denial. Instead, He wants us to face the troubles. with a cheerful heart, knowing that He is a victor, and in Him we, too, are victorious.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, as I face any troubles and challenges that come my way today, help me to have faith in Your victory. Fill me with the joy of a victor.
