Daily Devotional – Monday, March 3, 2025
I lay down and slept. I awoke, for the LORD sustained me.
Psalms 3:5 (NKJV)
In Psalms 3:5, David was justified to feel terrified and restless. David’s son, Absalom, had betrayed him, and was hunting the ageing man down. Nevertheless, he found solace within the turmoil. While his situation did not change, David lay down, slept, and woke up, because God sustained him.
I Lay Down and Slept
We can learn three important truths from this verse: David was sure God was in control; therefore, he was able to sleep. Attempting to shoulder things that only God is able to deal with is often the cause of our restless nights. He provides us with unfathomable calm when we put our troubles in His hands.
The fact that we wake up every day is evidence of God’s grace. He is the one who keeps our lungs and hearts functioning during the night. His will is the reason we get up every morning. This ought to make us thankful and confident in His ongoing supply.
Because God Sustains You
Even though David had many enemies, they couldn’t kill him unless God let it. Similarly, nothing can take us away from God’s love since He holds us in His powerful hand. We are safe in Him, regardless of the problems that surround us.
Are you tired? Do you struggle with uncertainty or fear? Give your worries to the Lord. Pray and have faith that He will provide for you. Tonight, rest in the knowledge that you are protected by the God who watched over and sustained David during his time of distress.
Prayer
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for sustaining me in my moments of distress. I trust You fully because I know You will never let me down.
