Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?
Amos 3:3 (NIV)
When I was transferred to a new station, I needed someone familiar to show me around. I remembered a colleague from another department who had moved in the same direction as me, several years before.
When I knocked on the office that bore his title, an unfamiliar face greeted me. “Excuse me,” I said, “I’m looking for my friend who works in this office.” I mentioned the name and waited.
“Your friend, you said?” The old man seated across the mahogany table asked. I replied in the affirmative. “If he was your friend, he would have told you he had been transferred to another station more than one year ago.”
“Oh, thank you”, I muttered, feeling embarrassed and humiliated. I turned and closed the door behind me.
My experience reminded me of the relationship between God and His people, Israel. God asked His children, “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3).
The Israelites were no longer walking with God. They had gone against the covenant (agreement) with Him. God was reminding them of their obligation to obey Him.
Genuine friends share values. They meet regularly to affirm their common standards. They plan together. They agree on the direction to take. They communicate regularly. Can this be said of God and you?
In which ways could you have stopped walking with God? Do you still spend adequate time with Him in prayer and Bible study as you used to when you first believed? Do you still trust and obey Him?
What can you do today to rejoin your walk with Jesus?
My Dear Lord and Friend, let me walk with You again.
Father in only you I trust walk with me gain amen
Amen, Rose. May God hear your prayer.
God Lord help us to daily maintain communion with thee
There’s no better companion in this journey, than God.
