How to Make Your Call and Election Sure

Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things, you will never stumble.
2 Peter 1:10 (NKJV)

The apostle Peter encourages believers to practice their faith diligently in today’s key reading. Living a Christian life involves deliberate effort; it is not a passive one. We do not have to strive to earn salvation, but God wants us to live in a way that reflects the fact that Jesus has saved us.

Be Even More Diligent

The expression “be even more diligent” suggests an ongoing, proactive quest for spiritual development. This is in line with what Peter mentioned in the earlier verses regarding enhancing our faith with virtue, wisdom, self-control, tenacity, godliness, love, and affection for one another.

Peter assures us that we will never stumble if we live up to these characteristics. This does not imply that there is no risk of falling into sin. Rather, we will continue to cling to Jesus, no matter our circumstances. We are less susceptible to temptation and doubt when we actively seek holiness. Sincere salvation will be evident in our lives, giving us faith in our election and calling.

Make Your Call and Election Sure

Are your godliness, love, and faith increasing? Our path is strengthened, and our calling is confirmed by prayer, scripture study, worship, and Christian community. Although God has given us salvation, we show that it is real by the way we live. Put your faith in Him to walk faithfully. Today, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure.
