The Assurance We All Need

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, April 22, 2025
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.
1 John 5:13 (NKJV)

How often do we entertain doubt, questioning whether we have been faithful, believed, or done enough? Doubt may gnaw at a person’s heart, particularly when we think about eternity and whether we qualify for it.

That You May Know

However, in today’s key text, the apostle John provides a strong foundation for our faith. Instead of writing to arouse fear or doubt, he writes to let us know that, as followers of Christ, we now enjoy eternal life.

The apostle Paul, having lived with the Son of God, and knowing quite well that certainty of eternal life to believers, wants to encourage those who may be despairing. These disciples, despite the challenges they face for believing in Jesus, have the assurance of eternal life with God.

The Assurance We All Need

John, thus, writes to assure believers that they do not have to wait until Jesus returns to have eternal life. It is not a matter of guesswork or hope. We have everlasting life now. How comforting it is to rest in His promise instead of relying on our ‘good works’ for salvation.

Whenever you experience doubts about the afterlife, especially when you feel unworthy of God’s love, remember you have eternal life. Moreover, share this truth with someone else to inspire them. Be a voice of confidence for the many believers who struggle with uncertainty in silence.

Prayer
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for assuring me that I have eternal life now because I believe in Jesus. Empower me to live fearlessly and to put my faith in Your unwavering promises.
