Falling and Rising Towards Heaven

Daily Devotional – Sunday, April 25, 2021

For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again…

Proverbs 24:16 (NKJV)

Heaven will be full of sinners – forgiven sinners. It will be proof that only by the grace of God will humans attain eternal life.

God calls Himself, “..the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:6, NKJV). This is a highly significant statement.

Abraham lied to King Abimelech of Gerar that Sarah (his wife), was his sister (Genesis 20:1-16). Years later, Isaac (Abraham’ son) told the same lie to the same king, in relation to Rebecca (Genesis 26:1-11).

Jacob was worse. He tricked his own brother, Esau. Isaac, too, got a taste of his own medicine from his younger son. Jacob did not spare his father-in-law, Laban, after the older man tried to trick the experienced trickster.

Why, then, would God call Himself the God of this family?

One – His character. He is “… the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth” (Exodus 34:6, NKJV). He forgives repentant sinners.

Two, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob knew that, “…a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again…” (Proverbs 24:16, NKJV). It is not the number of times you sin that matters, but the number of times you repent and receive God’s forgiveness.

Falling seven times symbolizes a perfect turning away from God. However, as long as you listen to God’s voice and repent, your spiritual journey continues.

Child of God, you will come short of God’s glory many times. Satan will trap you on countless occasions. Whenever this happens, rise up, turn to God for forgiveness, and press on towards eternal life.

Father, whenever I fall, remind me to reach for your hand, and to continue my spiritual journey.

A man is fallen in nature. But as you remind us, it is only by grace we are still called the children of the kingdom.
Thanks for reminder

Amen.
A good encouragement. Though we may fall God’s hand is always ready to draw as from our fall and restore our strength towards the focused journey, but all these happens when we as for forgiveness after realizing our fall.
