A Morsel with Quietness

Daily Devotional – Thursday, May 15, 2025
Better is a dry morsel with quietness than a house full of feasting with strife.
Proverbs 17:1 (NKJV)

Have you ever sat down to a big, fancy meal but felt tension in the room so thick you could barely enjoy a bite? That’s the gist of today’s key text. It is better to eat a dry piece of bread in a peaceful home than to have a table overflowing with food in a house filled with stress and conflict.

The Value of Peace

In our fast-paced world, we tend to think that having more money, more stuff, and more recognition means we are doing well. God, however, reminds us that peace is actually more valuable than all of that. What is the benefit of having everything if we are continually experiencing conflict, anxiety, or a sense of emptiness?

This does not mean that success or abundance is wrong. It just means that without peace, especially the kind that comes from God, even the best things in life can feel hollow. True joy comes from knowing God, having healthy relationships, and living in harmony with others. That is the kind of life that is truly rich.

A Morsel with Quietness

Is there an area in your life, maybe in your family, work, or personal goals, where peace has been pushed aside? What would it look like to let God bring calm and simplicity back into that space?

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me not to chase after things that don’t last. Teach me to treasure peace in my heart and in my home. Even if I have little, let it be filled with love and Your presence. Remind me that what matters most is not what is on the table, but Your presence in my life.
