A Compelling Reason to Try Again

Daily Devotional – Saturday, May 17, 2025
When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.”
Luke 5:4 (NKJV)

Have you ever worked really hard at something, only to feel like you got absolutely nowhere? That’s exactly what happened to Simon Peter. He had been out fishing all night. He was exhausted, discouraged, and probably just ready to go home. Yet, there was Jesus, asking him to go back out and try again.

Launch into the Deep

At first glance, it might have seemed like strange advice. Jesus was not a fisherman. The best fishing hours were long gone. Peter, nevertheless, trusted Him enough to say, “Nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net.” (Verse 5) What happened next? A miracle. Their nets were so full of fish they began to break!

This story is not just about catching fish. It entails learning to trust Jesus even when it doesn’t make sense, even when we are tired, and even when we feel like we have already failed. Sometimes, God asks us to take a step of faith after we have hit our limit because that is where His power shows up the most.

A Compelling Reason to Try Again

Where in your life do you feel like you have hit a dead end? Is God nudging you to try again, this time not on your own strength, but with Him leading? When Jesus is in your boat, even empty nets can turn into overflowing blessings. Now that you have a compelling reason to try again, don’t waste time.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, I am tired of trying on my own. If You are asking me to go deeper, help me trust You. Even when I don’t get it, help me obey because I believe You see what I can’t.
