When We Take Grace for Granted

Daily Devotional – Sunday, May 18, 2025
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?
Romans 6:1-2 (NKJV)

Have you ever thought something like, “God will forgive me anyway, so it’s not a big deal if I mess up”? It is an easy trap to fall into, especially when we are struggling or feeling worn down. Paul challenges that mindset head-on in Romans 6. Just because God is full of grace doesn’t mean we should treat sin casually.

Shall We Continue to Sin?

That’s not how grace works. When we decided to follow Jesus, we didn’t just add a new belief to our lives. We made a complete life change. In God’s eyes, our old self, the one that was tangled up in sin, died with Christ. We have been given a new identity. We are not who we used to be.

That doesn’t mean we will never struggle again but sin is no longer in charge. We don’t have to live stuck in shame, guilt, or old habits. Grace doesn’t just clean up our mess; it gives us the strength to live differently.

When We Take Grace for Granted

Are there areas where you have been letting sin linger, assuming grace will just cover it? What would it look like today to live like someone who is truly free from sin’s control? How can you lean on God’s grace not just for forgiveness, but for strength to change?

Prayer
Almighty God, forgive me for the times I have taken your grace for granted or used it as an excuse. Give me the strength to say no to sin and yes to the new life You have given me.
