Incessant Waves of Grace

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, June 3, 2025
Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
John 1:16 (NIV)

Imagine standing by the ocean and watching wave after wave crash onto the shore. They just keep coming, one after another, never stopping. That’s the kind of picture John paints in today’s key text. It’s not just a drop of grace here and there. It’s wave after wave. Constant. Unstoppable. Always enough.

Grace Already Given

Jesus doesn’t give us grace from a limited supply. He gives it from His fullness, from everything He is, everything He has, and everything He’s done. He doesn’t run dry, get tired, or hold back. His love and grace are always flowing, always reaching, always restoring.

We are not just forgiven once and then left to figure things out on our own. Rather, we are continually being met with grace. Grace when we mess up. Grace when we are exhausted. Grace when we doubt. Grace when we are growing. And when we think we have reached the end of it, there is more grace.

Incessant Waves of Grace

This kind of grace changes everything. It quiets our striving, softens our shame, and reminds us we don’t have to earn what Jesus freely gives. You are not scraping by on ‘left overs’ of God’s mercy. You are living in an abundance of His fullness, surrounded by more than enough.

Can you remember a time when you felt overwhelmed but God’s grace carried you through? Is there an area of your life where you are trying to earn what God is already offering freely? Who around you needs a little grace today, from you?

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for incessant waves of grace, especially in my moments of weakness and distress.
