But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles…
Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
The eagle is considered the king of birds. It symbolizes courage, strength, focus and power.
The Bible has about 34 verses which mention the eagle. Our focus is a Bible passage that likens spiritual growth to some aspects of an eagle’s life.
In Isaiah 40:31, Scripture says, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
To put this verse in context, consider one characteristic of an eagle’s feathers – moulting. This is a gradual replacement of a bird’s feathers. It happens throughout the life on an eagle.
Birds have powerful wing muscles which enable them to fly. Feathers are attached to wings. Wings provide the ability to sustain flight. Therefore, renewing of feathers symbolises replenishing of strength.
Those who hope and trust in God renew their spiritual strength regularly because they are engaged in spiritual warfare. Paul says, “We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair.” (2 Corinthians 4:8, NKJV).
When we habitually quench our spiritual thirst in Christ’s well, we can “… mount up with wings as eagles.” God gives us strength to face difficulties. We get grace sufficient for our daily lives.
Today, if you find yourself low on faith and confidence, resort to the tried and tested methods: prayer, Bible study and witnessing. Just like a motor vehicle, you need to refuel in Christ’s filling stations as often as you run low on spiritual fuel.
Father, please renew my spiritual strength once again.
Amen .
We often lose steam due to the struggles of life. We need regular refilling from Christ. Thanks, Brian.
