From Despair to Abundant Harvest

Daily Devotional – Monday, May 17, 2021

“He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.”

Psalms 126:6 (ESV)

I loved traveling by night bus during my university days. It was both exciting and educative. I was particularly fascinated by the vibrant economic activities in the major towns along the way.

Hot beverages, snacks and full meals would be on offer. Hawkers were also busy selling their wares. There was virtually no difference between day and night in terms of economic activity.

None of these businesspeople, I believe, would go home without food for their loved ones. I believe the same happens in our markets and other business premises.

How wonderful our God is! He sees the tears and hardship of His children as they venture out daily to eke a living. He knows they have bills to pay and families to feed. He ensures that, “Those who sow in tears shall reap with shouts of joy!” (Psalm 126:5).

The Psalmist further observes, “He who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” (Psalms 126:6, ESV).

The farmer sheds a tear as he leaves his children hungry. He must plant the seed that could have been the day’s meal. The family will be hungry temporarily, but one day, he will come home, full of joy, with an abundant harvest.

As you step out today, remember God knows you and understands your struggles. It is just a matter of time before He turns your tears of sorrow into tears of joy. Trust Him to supply your need today.
