…If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.
Genesis 13:9 (NKJV)
When Abram and his nephew, Lot, grew wealthy, conflict arose among their herders. “Now the land was not able to support them … for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.” Genesis 13:6.
What would you have done if you were Abram?
“My nephew, this is my God-given land. Go find your own. Leave, now!”
May be that is what some of us would have told the ungrateful Lot.
Abram’s suggestion, however, was, “Is not the whole land before you? Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I will go to the right; or, if you go to the right, then I will go to the left.” Genesis 13:9.
For peace to prevail, Abram gave Lot the privilege to choose where to live. Lot chose the fertile and well-watered Eastern Jordanian plains – where Sodom and Gomorrah were located.
Abram remained in the less-attractive Canaan. He continued to build altars to the Lord, wherever he pitched tent.
Lot’s choice, eventually, led to pain and regret for his himself, his family and his future offspring.
Like Lot, there are times when we choose based on sight and not faith. We choose the fertile valleys of sin at the expense of the not-so-attractive lands of righteousness. Ultimately, we pay for our choices with agony and remorse.
Ask God to help you to choose His side, no matter how rough it appears. After all, the Lord’s side never loses.
Father, once again, I choose to follow You, whatever the cost.
Lord help me make the right choice
Amen
Amen, Marvin. may God hear your prayer.
