Lest Satan should take advantage of us, for we are not ignorant of his devices.
2 Corinthians 2:11 (NKJV)
A friend introduced me to a multi-level marketing venture. I joined and brought others on board. After a few months, the company collapsed. My downlines and I lost the money we had invested.
I was disappointed. My friend explained that he was not aware of the ill intentions of the founders of the company. Reluctantly, I accepted his explanation.
A few days later, he told me of a new venture that had high potential for profit. I invested my money. Within a month, the new company had closed down its website.
According to a popular proverb, “Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.” I was hurt and embarrassed that this guy had conned me twice. He knew my weaknesses, but I was not conversant with his trickery.
So it is with the devil. He has a bag of tricks he uses on us. According to Paul, we should be alert, “Lest Satan should take advantage of us.” 2 Corinthians 2:11. Satan knows our weak points. Therefore, we must stay awake and not be tricked again and again.
How? By not being “ignorant of his devices,” When I assess my life carefully, I know where the devil traps me. He loves revisiting the same cracks in my life and widening them.
Satan is immensely more intelligent and powerful than you. Seek God’s wisdom to identify the fault lines through which Satan enters your life.
Also, heed James’ advice, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7).
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I submit myself to you, for without you, I cannot overcome sin and the devil.
