That which we have seen and heard we declare to you.
1 John 1:3 (NKJV)
A parent-friend recently told me that while children first believe in the God of their parents, they must eventually find their own God. I agreed, fully.
As a parent, I want my children to adopt my faith fully. My doctrines must be their doctrines. I want them to attend my church and adopt my dress code and hairstyle.
However, as they grow older and interact with society, they begin to have different worldviews. I cannot force my beliefs on them. The faith they inherited from me is severely tested.
I pray that they will come out stronger in faith. More importantly, that they will have known God for themselves. I want them to say like the Apostle John, “…that which we have seen and heard, we declare to you.” 1 John 1:3.
I hope there will be, ‘The Gospel according to Abbie’, for example. My daughter will declare the Jesus she has met and experienced, not just the one I taught her to worship.
Like John, after we experience Jesus personally, our message to others will be, “…that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.” 1 John 1:3.
If you were to write the Gospel according to you, what would be its highlights? Would it contain divine miracles? What practical lessons of faith would you share? Would your Gospel reveal an intimate and active daily connection with Christ?
Every day, you are writing the Gospel according to you. People are reading it. Will they believe in Jesus from your testimony?
Lord Jesus, make me a living Gospel.
Our actions are the first sermon we preach before we utter anything, then followed by the the true testimonies we experience. This two they usually touch souls and makes them to draw closer to God
Thank you for the insight, Lazarus. God bless you.
May our lives be a gospel unto others
That is my prayer, also, Brian. Abundant blessings to you.
