For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.
Romans 15:4 (NIV)
Winston Churchill once observed, “The farther back you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” In other words, we must draw lessons from the past to make the present and future meaningful.
It has also been said that those who fail to learn from the mistakes of the past are bound to repeat them. History is a teacher. Those who flop in previous classes are not well-prepared to pass future exams.
I find an even more powerful statement on history in the Bible. “ For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope (Romans 15:4).
The Bible is a motivational book. We draw inspiration from the experiences of Biblical characters. The stories of Noah, Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Solomon, Daniel, Peter, Paul, John and others, can lift you up during your lowest moments.
As a Christian, you will face challenges as you journey home. Satan will whisper discouraging words. You need encouragement and hope to stay on course. Make the Bible your source of motivation. You will never lack inspiration to gladden your path home.
From which Bible character or story do you draw the greatest inspiration and hope in your toughest moments? Share this story, today, with someone who needs motivation to face life’s challenges.
Father, thank you for the inspiration and hope I find in Scripture. Help me make the Bible my most important motivational book.
