…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)
In your journey of faith, you will have days when the cares of life will sap your energy. There will be times of doubt and fear. On some days, you will even wonder, “Does Jesus care?”
Sickness, death, mistreatment, betrayal and the guilt of sin will often weigh you down. During such times, you will find yourself asking, like Pastor Frank E. Graeff, ‘Does Jesus Care?”
When this Methodist preacher’s daughter died, the grieving man wrote the powerful song,
‘Does Jesus Care?’
Consider the first stanza:
Does Jesus care when my heart is pained / Too deeply for mirth or song,/ As the burdens press, and the cares distress, / And the way grows weary and long?
Stanza 2 reflects on the dark times, when fear assails the soul. It concludes, “Does He care enough to be near?” Stanza 3 explores the guilt of falling short of God’s holy requirements. Stanza 4 delves into the grief of losing a loved one.
Then comes the beautiful reassuring refrain:
Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,/ His heart is touched with my grief; / When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, / I know my Savior cares.
1 Peter 5:7 “…casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” The pain cuts deep but there is hope in casting one’s anxieties on the caring Lord Jesus.
As you face life’s challenges, never forget that you have a caring Lord. Look beyond the troubles of the moment. Like Peter and Pastor Graeff, you can confidently declare, ‘I know my Saviour cares.’
Father, I cast all my anxieties upon You because I know You care.
Great to know that Jesus cares when my heart is pained.
Amen, Harriet
