He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ)
John 1:41 (NKJV)
Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was not eloquent like his brother. He did not write a gospel. He chose to be a bridge to Jesus.
When Andrew heard about Jesus from John the Baptist, “He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’…And he brought him to Jesus.” John 1:41-42.
Andrew introduced Peter to Jesus. He was the bridge for his brother. Without Andrew reaching out, perhaps we would not have Peter’s story and ministry.
John 12:20-22 records another instance when Andrew acted as a bridge to Jesus:
Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast. Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
Like Andrew, you may not be a gifted preacher. Maybe you cannot write a devotional. Bible study is probably not your strong point. Singing may not be your talent, but God has not left you without a gift.
Find a way to lead people to Jesus. You may serve your church as an usher or deacon. If you cannot preach or teach, refer people to your church minister. Invite them to church to listen to sermons, Bible Study and music.
You may not be Peter but you can be Andrew. Be the bridge that people use to reach Jesus.
Will you be the Andrew that introduces another person to Jesus today?
Lord Jesus, give me the courage to lead other people to you.
Lord help me to be ambassador of your word in leading your people to your work..
Amen, Juster
