Let all things be done decently and in order
1 Corinthians 14:40 (NKJV)
Order is an underlying principle of the kingdom of God. A good example is the story of creation. A well-planned process culminated in the ideal home for man. While God had the ability to create the earth at once, He divided His work into days.
Every day, God created something new. Every new creation added value to the one created the previous day. When the earth was without form, void and darkness, God created light on the first day.
By the sixth day, the earth was teeming with life. Then God created Adam and Eve. Man had everything he needed within his environment, including the presence of God.
Paul, a man who understood the divine origin of order addressed the disorder in the church at Corinth. He wrote, “For God is not the author of confusion but of peace…” (1 Corinthians 14:33). 1 Corinthians 14 paints a picture of a church where every worshiper did what he or she saw best.
The final statement in the Chapter is an emphatic command, “Let all things be done decently and in order.” (1 Corinthians 14:40). The Bible is full of other examples of the principle of order at work in God’s operations.
Christians cannot profess to love God when they do not exercise order in their lives. Order in the home, at work, in personal projects and tasks, in church matters and in all we do, will please God.
Would you define your life as one of order or confusion? What action can you take today to be an orderly person like your Heavenly Father is?
Father, teach me how to be orderly and decent in all I do.
What is the relationship between order and God? Please leave a comment.
