Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.
Psalms 43:5 (NKJV)
There are times in the life of a human being when hope and self-motivation are critical. David was an expert in this regard. He might have needed these two qualities often because of the many low moments he experienced.
A good example is Psalms 43:5. “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God.” It was as if David was looking at Himself in a mirror and urging himself forward.
There will be trying times in your life when you will have to address yourself directly and demand that you keep going. You will need to tell yourself, “Hope in God.” In some of these moments, the only thing you will be clinging to is hope itself.
There will be moments when the words of other people will not motivate you. Only God and you will have control over the situation.
You must learn to see a bright future beyond your current troubles. When you learn to lean on God, you can be sure that you will praise God soon, because He will intervene in your situation.
Yes, today may be dark. Your circumstances may not offer any hope. Look up, though, because as Solomon says in Ecclesiastes 9:4, there is hope for you as long as you are alive. Tell yourself everything is possible with God.
Lord Jesus, I place my hope in you. I know you will come through for me.
When hope is the only thing you have left, keep hoping. Let me know your thoughts on this devotional.
