Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.
Luke 10:20 (NKJV)
In Luke 10:1, Jesus sent out 70 disciples “ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.” Luke 10:1 (NIV). When they returned, they joyfully said, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.” (Luke 10:17, NKJV).
God had used them to preach the gospel and perform miracles. However, Jesus was concerned that they might become proud and think they were responsible for the good results. He warned them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.” (Luke 10:18, NKJV).
Jesus was cautioning the disciples not to be like Lucifer (see Isaiah 14:12–15 and Ezekiel 28:12–18). Instead, they were to give glory to God for the miracles He had performed through them.
Jesus emphasized, “Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20, NKJV).
God has used and will continue to use you to lead people to salvation. Through your prayers, God will heal many and perform various miracles. However, do not be proud. Secondly, do not forget your own salvation.
Even as you serve God, your main concern should be whether your name is written in the Book of Life. Pride will hinder the attainment of this goal.
To quote the Apostle Paul, “But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” (1 Corinthians 9:27, NKJV).
Lord Jesus, as I continue to serve you, remind me to attend to my spiritual needs, too.
