Can God Count on You to Defend Your Faith?

Daily Devotional – Sunday, August 28, 2021

I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints

Jude 1:3 (NKJV)

The leader of a team working on a church project told other members, “This project will not fail under our watch. We must live up to the trust bestowed on us.”

Jude, in his one-chapter letter, dealt with a similar issue. His original purpose was to discuss the “common salvation” (Jude 1:3) shared by Christians.

However, he changed his mind. Why? For certain men have crept in unnoticed, who long ago were marked out for this condemnation, ungodly men, who turn the grace of our God into lewdness and deny the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ.”

As expected, the enemy, perhaps realizing that persecuting Christians made the faith more popular, had penetrated the ranks of believers. It was easier to attack Christians from inside by placing wolves in sheep clothing in the church.

So, what was Jude’s new topic? “I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.” (Jude 1:3).

Jude told his readers that God had placed a very precious treasure in their custody. Therefore, they were supposed to defend the faith from external and internal enemies. When you value something, you guard it jealously.

The same priceless faith is now in your hands. Are you defending it by word and deed? Your work is to spread the Gospel. Will the fire perish in your possession? Can you be counted upon to defend this invaluable faith?

Father, I commit myself to defend this faith in word and deed.
