Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!
Psalms 27:14 (NKJV)
Patience is a nutrient of the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Only the indwelling Spirit can plant and nurture this virtue in you – with your permission, of course.
David addresses the concept of waiting in Psalm 27. He says, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the LORD!” (Psalms 27:14, NKJV).
Let us reflect on the life of David, for us to understand what may have motivated this statement.
After King Saul rebelled, God sent Samuel to anoint David king over Israel. Bible scholars estimate that David was aged 15 years at that time. In 2 Samuel 5:4, we read that David became king when he was 30 years old.
This means David had to wait about 15 years to start ruling. During these 15 years, Saul and his soldiers hunted David like a beast of prey. The future king was a fugitive despite Samuel anointing him. On God’s appointed day, though, David entered the palace.
That is why he said, “Wait on the LORD; …Wait, I say, on the LORD!” Have you waited for very long for God to answer some of your prayer? Are you almost giving up, thinking God has forgotten you?
Learn from David to trust the Almighty God whose plans know neither haste nor delay. Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. You can trust this divine promise.
Wait patiently, I say, on the Lord!
Father, as I wait for You to answer my prayers, I will trust in You fully.
How should we react when God seems to be taking too long to answer our prayers? Please leave a comment.
I will forever trust and wait patiently from you Lord.
