In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NKJV)
One evening, two of my friends and I were walking home after church. From a distance, a beggar noticed us coming his way. He raised his voice to ask us for help. How else would he react on seeing three smartly dressed young men carrying bibles?
Unfortunately, having graduated from university recently, we had no reliable sources of income. You can imagine the beggar’s disappointment when we passed by without putting anything into his bowl. I felt disappointed that I could not help a man in need.
Suddenly, before we could get out of his sight, the beggar shouted at us, “Look at them; coming from church holding Bibles, yet they cannot help a beggar!” Embarrassed, we disappeared from the scene as fast as possible.
Was it mandatory that we help the man? How willing would we be to assist him the next time we were in a position to? He chose to focus on what we did not give him instead of what he had received from other people that day.
As Christians, we risk adopting a similar attitude. Paul counsels, “In everything, give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18, NKJV).
When we know that God is in control and means good for us, we will thank Him even when life does not go as we want. God will teach some lessons by giving us what we ask for; others we will learn through lack.
Whichever the case, we should be grateful to God in all circumstances.
Thank You, God, for everything – good or ‘bad’ – in my life.

That’s it, Chairman. An attitude of gratitude always wins. God bless you abundantly.

When you learn to thank God in all situations you open closed doors.
