But let the one who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD…
Jeremiah 9:24 (NASB)
The greatest decision a human being can make is to accept Jesus as their personal Savior and Lord. The term ‘personal’ implies an intimate relationship where there is constant and open communication.
Knowing God personally should be the aspiration of every Christian. Some Bible characters modeled this relationship. They were not perfect but they knew the value and enjoyed the privileges of walking closely with God.
“Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.” (Genesis 5:24). God and Enoch must have been so close that they could not live apart.
Abraham “was called God’s friend.” (James 2:23). Abraham had such a close relationship with God that he could have deep conversations with his Maker.
Job’s sufferings reveal a man who had an intimate (though not perfect) relationship with God. Job said, “I know that my Redeemer lives and that in the end He will stand on the earth.” (Job 19:25).
Paul had total confidence in God. He said, “I know whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day.” (2 Timothy 1:12).
No relationship is greater than having an intimate connection with God. He says, “Let the one who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows me.” (Jeremiah 9:24).
Knowing God is more of a process than an event. Let our prayer be that of the old hymn: “More about Jesus would I know.”
