Go Out and Collect Your Daily Supply of Blessings

Daily Devotional – Monday, September 27, 2021
Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day…
Exodus 16:4 (NKJV)

One of the basic lessons God taught His children after they left Egypt was total dependence on Him. This was after they complained:

“Oh, that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” (Exodus 16:3).

They might have escaped physical slavery, but their minds were still in Egyptian captivity.  Now God wanted to shift their minds from relying on human masters to depending fully on Him.

It was then that He offered them a superior, heavenly diet (Psalm 78:24-25).  He told Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you. And the people shall go out and gather a certain quota every day.” (Exodus 16:4).

This story has two important lessons that we need to learn as Christians:

1. God supplied free manna daily. This food could not be stored until the following day: Jesus tells us not to worry about tomorrow because He has it covered (Matthew 6:34).
2. The Israelites had to go out and collect manna even though it was free food: God promises to bless the work of our hands (Deuteronomy 28:12), not idle talk. God has placed our daily bread in the work He has assigned us to do.

In essence, God will supply our needs, but we will access those supplies through our work.

Almighty Father, bless the work of our hands today and always.
