…when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
2 Timothy 1:5 (NKJV)
Generational (family) wealth is handed down from generation to the next in a family. Children, grandchildren and great grandchildren live comfortably, thanks to fortune generated by earlier generations.
The Bible encourages us to generate family wealth in Proverbs 13:22, which says, “A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children…” Whatever you situation right now, By God’s grace, endeavor to leave wealth for your offspring when you exit the earth.
However, another type of wealth exists that is more important than material riches. You can give your children the best life on earth but if you deny them the second type of wealth, everything else will be meaningless and a waste.
In his second letter to Timothy, Paul observed, “…when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5).
Lois, Timothy’s grandmother, generated spiritual wealth and bequeathed it to Eunice, her daughter. Eunice taught the same faith to her son, Timothy, who became a faithful church minister.
If you have not acquired a knowledge of God, ask God to reveal Himself to you. If someone (for example, your parents) handed down the faith to you, endeavour to bequeath your children this priceless gift.
Today, choose to be the modern Lois, Eunice or Timothy. Keep the faith and start teaching is to the younger generation.
Father, help me to practice and bequeath generational faith to my offspring.
The faith I profess today first came to my maternal grandfather then to my mother. How about yours?
