For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
Perhaps we don’t feel the presence of God and His love for us because of our limited focus on Him. Is it possible that our hearts are far away from God, busy focusing on other things? Maybe we have put our treasures in a store other than the heavenly one.
Treasures are important and precious, but where we store them is also significant. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” If we store our treasures on earth, our hearts will focus on earthly things. If we store our treasures in heaven, our hearts will focus on heavenly things.
Daniel’s treasures were in heaven. He chose to focus on God when his enemies threatened him. In the lion’s den, Daniel was at peace because he had given his life and affections to God. Had his treasures been on earth, Daniel would have surrendered to the demands of His enemies. God rescued Daniel because Daniel honoured God.
A Common Home
Your heart and your treasure have a common home. When we store our treasures in heaven, we are connected with heaven. Only then do we experience genuine joy and peace. If we claim to love God yet behave contrary to His will, our treasures are not in heaven but with Satan.
Laying up our treasures in heaven means giving our lives, affections, and everything to God. It implies that God takes the first place in our lives. A person whose treasures are in heaven commits his plans to God before implementing them.
When your treasure is in heaven, you will not proceed with any activity unless and until you are sure God has approved your plans and will go with you. It means following Christ’s counsel: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33).
Prayer
Heavenly Father, today I commit myself and all my plans into Your hands. My treasure is with You.
I would want my heart to prioritize God and His kingdom, there is where my possession and treasures lie. 🙏
Amen, Charles. May God grant your prayer
Amen, may our hearts be transformed by his love to value heavenly prize more than the earthly things.
