Why Waiting on the Lord is Good for You

Daily Devotional – Sunday, November 21, 2021

Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Psalms 27:14 (NKJV)

At an early age, I learned that God answers prayers in three ways: ‘Yes’, ‘No’ and ‘Wait’.

Nothing thrills my heart than to get a ‘Yes’ from God. It means that my desires are in tandem with the will of God.

Now, it is devastating to receive a ‘No’ answer, especially after many long petitions. However, this answer brings closure. I swallow my disappointment, close that door and move on.

The answer I dread most is ‘Wait’. I have no timelines to work with. My role is to wait for God to respond in His own time.

I once attended a phased job interview. After several online and face-to-face meetings, the interviewers told me to go and wait for their call.

Every day after that, I held on to my phone waiting for that important call. If I traveled to an area with not mobile phone network, I got worried that I had missed the important call. I also checked my email several times every day.

I wished they had given me a ‘Yes’ or a ‘No’ answer immediately after the last meeting.

Wait on the LORD

David was speaking to people like me when he wrote, “Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart. Wait, I say, on the LORD!” (Psalms 27:14).

Waiting for God to answer your prayer requires courage and divine wisdom. The evil one will cloud your mind with doubt. He will try to convince you that God does not care. Satan will offer you alternative and immediate ‘solutions’ that only lead to pain and sorrow.

God promises to strengthen you as you wait for His answer. The indwelling Holy Spirit will grow in you the fruit of patience. That way, you will wait for the Lord, irrespective of how long it takes.

As we wait for the Lord, we may discover that what we considered important was not necessary.  The waiting time also increases faith and reliance on God instead of being a frustrating experience. If God has put you on hold, it is for your own good.

Wait on the LORD. Wait, I say, on the LORD!

Almighty Father, teach me how to wait patiently as You work on my requests.

Amen ,Gods time is indeed the best and as his word says he has our best intrests at heart.

Charles Ouma-

People do somethings when they wait.. for instance when I’m waiting in a line to be served I move from line to line I can’t stay put…I do mindless things tapping my feet, pace back and forth.. look for something in my phone to distract me so that the waiting time passes fast.
All of these things are done by many while waiting in an effort to be patient but they only reveal just how impatient we really are.
When we have to wait for God we have to learn to be patient and trust in His word.. He does make things right in His own time.
(Isaiah 60:22)

Duncan Mutwiri Simon

I’ll patiently wait upon the Lord, Paul said.
My due time is coming.
