Teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.
Psalms 27:11 (NKJV)
Do you have a favourite teacher who influenced your life positively? Perhaps you still communicate with and seek counsel from him or her long after you finished your studies. Maybe you chose your career out of the influence of that tutor.
The influence of a teacher lasts for a lifetime. He or she is like a spring from which students love to drink. A teacher is both a role model and a guide.
God the Master Teacher
Human teachers may not be perfect but they exemplify some of the character traits of the Master Teacher. He it was who taught Adam and Eve their first lessons in the Garden of Eden Academy.
In the wilderness, He taught the freed Israelite slaves a new way of life. He instructed them to build a tabernacle for Him so that He would dwell among them. God, the Teacher, wrote His 1o key lessons on tablets of stone using His own hand.
When He descended on earth in human flesh, Jesus taught in the synagogues, the temple and in open fields. His school was anywhere He could find human beings. Christ’s godly, genuine, practical and effective methodology and content had a transforming impact on His hearers.
He taught them as one having authority
Matthew had this to say about the Master Teacher: “And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.” (Matthew 7:28-29).
When we encounter the Master Teacher, we will pray like David did, “Teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a smooth path, because of my enemies.” (Psalms 27:11). He not only teaches us, He also leads us in paths of righteousness, peace, safety and prosperity.
The Teacher is at work today
God invites us into His classroom today. Our lesson books are the Bible, nature and our experiences with God. This time, the teacher lives in our hearts. The classroom can be anywhere, anytime.
This is what Jesus said about the new Teacher: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” (John 14:26).
Is God your Teacher? Do you read the Bible prayerfully and regularly under the guidance of the Holy Spirit? Do you ask the Teacher for clarification and guidance through prayer? It is never too late to go back to school.
Almighty God, teach me Your way, O LORD, and lead me in a smooth path…
Is true God is our master teacher.
True, George. We need to sit at His feet daily and learn.
