You Will Sprout Again

Daily Devotional – Saturday, March 12, 2022

At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.

Job 14:7 (NKJV)

When Eric visited his rural home after months of absence, he observed something unusual. One of the walls had cracked and an avocado plant was spouting. He was disgusted and dismayed.

As he counted his losses, a powerful thought interrupted him. Before he built the house, there was an avocado tree near the current crack. He realized that though the builders had cut down the tree, its roots had remained intact.

If It Is Cut Down, It Will Sprout Again

The avocado tree was not dead just because the builders had cut down the trunk and branches. Job envisioned this situation when he said:

At least there is hope for a tree:
If it is cut down, it will sprout again,
and its new shoots will not fail.
Its roots may grow old in the ground
and its stump die in the soil,
yet at the scent of water it will bud
and put forth shoots like a plant
.”

 (Job 14:7-9)

You Will Sprout Again

Today, you may feel like a tree without a trunk. Trouble and challenges attack you from every side. The weight upon your mind and shoulders is unbearable. You see no hope. Your enemies rejoice over your misfortune.

Do not lose hope. Like the tree Job described, as long as you are alive and you keep believing, you will sprout again. Your troubles may have lasted long. People may have given up on you but God has not.

Soon, God will send His rain of mercy and providence, and you will sprout again. You will pierce through the walls people have built on you. Do not give up on yourself because God still believes in you.

You will sprout again.

Prayer

Father, thank You because there is hope for me despite my current circumstances.
