O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust.
1 Timothy 6:20 (NKJV)
In God’s school of leadership, there are no vacuums. One generation hands over divine treasure to the next one. A leader passes the baton to the successor. There is no laissez faire type of leadership.
Moses handed over leadership to Joshua. God told Elijah to anoint Elisha to become the new prophet. After the ascension of Jesus, the disciples spread the gospel. That is why you are a Christian today.
Guard what was Committed to Your Trust
Like team members in a relay race, each individual must hold on to the baton, run, and pass the stick to the next member. It is disastrous to the team for any member to drop the baton, refuse to run, or do both.
We can apply this analogy to the Christian faith. Paul wrote to Timothy. “O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust.” (1 Timothy 6:20). What a powerful command!
Timothy was the custodian of heavenly treasure. He must guard it jealously and hand it over unadulterated to the next generation. You may remember that Timothy himself was a beneficiary of generational faith from his mother and grandmother.
Will the Baton Fall While In Your Custody?
Are we guarding the faith that God delivered through His servants, including our parents? When the time comes for us to hand over to the next generation, what shall we give it?
Interestingly, the best way to guard our faith is to spread the gospel to all we can reach. The more souls we win for Christ, the more secure the heavenly treasure will be.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, help me to guard what You have committed to my trust.
Thank you God for the gift of salvation. Teach us the laws and statutes which are the true expression of faith. That we may guard the faith by allegiance; upon which we were delivered. In Jesus Christ’s name.
Amen
Amen..before i pass the buton may God help me Run with perseverance the race marked out for me.
Amen
