Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down. For the LORD upholds him with His hand.
Psalms 37:24 (NKJV)
One interesting and encouraging issue about the Bible is that it does not gloss over human weaknesses. In it, we read about individuals who rebelled against God by committing outrageous atrocities, yet became heroes of faith.
Noah made wine, got drunk, became naked and cursed his son, Ham, when the latter saw his father’s nakedness. The father of faith, Abraham, was a liar and adulterer. Isaac and Jacob inherited Abraham’s lying nature.
The Man After God’s Own Heart
God described David a man, “after His own heart” (1 Samuel 13:14). Despite that, David became an adulterer, liar and murderer. He knew the depth of to which a human being can sink and the height to which God can raise those who repent.
Now we can understand David when he says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down. For the LORD upholds him with His hand.” (Psalms 37:23-24).
Though He Fall, He Shall Not Be Utterly Cast Down
There is hope for all of us who come short of God’s perfect standard countless times. Though we fall, if we allow God to forgive and lift us onto our feet again, He imputes His righteousness on us. He call us godly despite our weaknesses.
Are you still feeling unworthy because you keep failing God? Don’t despair. Allow God to forgive you and uphold you with His hand. Like unworthy David, you can inherit God’s kingdom.
Prayer
Thank you God because though I fall, I will rise up by Your grace.
