Thus says the LORD, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it. Then you will find rest for your souls.”
Jeremiah 6:16 (NKJV)
I love hiking, but a good hike can turn into a nightmare if one gets lost. A possible solution is to continue walking, and hope you will find some help or a path out. Alternatively, you can stay and wait for help. These two options are likely to fail.
A more effective solution is to walk back to the last place you are familiar with. This could be the crossroads or junction where you took the wrong turn. Your anxiety will disappear, and peace will fill your heart.
Where is the Good Way?
When the Israelites lost their way, God urged them: “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in them. Then you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16).
Like a lost hiker, the Israelites needed to retrace their steps to a time when they used to serve God faithfully. They were to revisit their history to see His footprints in their lives despite their unfaithfulness.
Instead of giving up on their spiritual journey or persisting in sin, they were to return to God. Only then would they find lasting peace for their souls.
Walk in the Old Paths of Righteousness
We, too, may find ourselves estranged from God. To get out of this dangerous situation, we must return to our first love. Do you remember the overwhelming joy and peace you felt when you accepted Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord? Relive that experience today.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, whenever I lose my way, please lead me back on the path of righteousness to You, my source of lasting peace.
