…who (Jesus), in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear.
Hebrews 5:7 (NKJV)
In my life experiences, I have learned to appreciate Jesus, the Son of Man. I am talking about the Son of Mary, the Nazarene Carpenter, who walked the dusty and hot pathways of Galilee. Although He was fully God, He was fully human.
One of the manifestations of Christ’s humanness that I admire is His prayer life. Jesus was a prayer warrior. In His humanity, He depended 100% on God. That explains Luke 5:16, “So He Himself often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.” (NIV).
He Prayed With Vehement Cries and Tears
There is more. Jesus did not just pray. According to Paul, Jesus, “…in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear.” (Hebrews 5:7).
As Christians, we are by definition, followers of Christ. Do we model the prayer life of Jesus? How many times do we mumble a few recited statements and decide we have talked to God? How about praying in bed and dozing off before uttering ‘Amen’?
Modeling Our Prayer Life After Jesus
If Jesus, the Son of God created regular time for prayer and wrestled with God, why do we treat prayer with so much triviality? What do you learn from this aspect of Jesus’ humanity that you can apply in your prayer life?
Prayer
Jesus, teach me to pray as You did.
Amen..If Christ saw the urgency of utter dependence on God,then how much more we frail, fallible humans value the divine appointment with God in prayer.
That’s the point. We need to model Christ’s prayer life as closely as possible.
