In the beginning God….
Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)
rom the onset, the Bible makes its clear that everything begins with God. “In the beginning God…” (Genesis 1:1) is a fundamental statement of scripture. There can be no beginning with God. If it exists, it is not genuine. It can only end in disappointment.
Moses understood this well when he told God, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.” (Exodus 33:15). Moses could not imagine proceeding with the Journey to Canaan without God.
Moses knew the task ahead was difficult. The Israelites would face formidable opposition yet they had no formal war training or a proper army. Even worse, Moses was leading a rebellious people, who grumbled at every turn.
Unless the LORD Builds the House
Solomon, in one of his psalms, expressed the same message differently. “Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” (Psalm 127:1).
The wise man understood the futility of having a beginning devoid of God. The foundation of every family should be God. Every project must get God’s approval for it to achieve genuine success.
Every Plant Which God Has Not Planted Will Be Uprooted
When the Creator came to live with man, He stated, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.” (Matthew 15:13).
The common thread in these passages is that our lives, projects, days, relationships and so on, must begin with God. If we desire true success, we must endeavour to make, “In the beginning God…” the starting point of everything.
Prayer
Loving Father, today, I choose to begin again with You.
