He asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
Ezekiel 37:3 (NKJV)
I know a prayerful person who was offered a job more than two years after being interviewed for the vacancy. He had given up and forgotten about his dream job. It was as if his job had resurrected from the dead.
You must also know that drug addict, alcoholic or jailbird that everyone had written off. She was beyond redemption in the eyes of the public. Today, however, all that is in the past. She is barely recognizable from the wreck she used to be.
The Valley of Dry Bones
There are similar instances of extraordinary transformation point to a power superior to human beings. This is the power at play in the story of the Valley of Dry Bones as narrated by Prophet Ezekiel.
Ezekiel is skeptical when God points to scattered bones in a valley and asks, “Son of man, can these bones live?” (Ezekiel 37:3). Even for the servant of God, the idea of bones gaining flesh and living again is incomprehensible.
The God Who Specializes in the Impossible
What the prophet and many of us do not comprehend is that the Author of life has no bounds. He specializes in the impossible. That is why the dry bones come to life and form a vast human army.
Before you give up on yourself or another person cast your burden on the Lord who brings dry bones to life. He owns everything, including you. God controls time. He knows the exact time and manner for answering your prayers. Be patient. Trust Him.
Prayer
Abba Father, please resurrect the ‘dry bones’ of my spiritual and material life.
Indeed from the dry bones experience, God wants us to know that when we have no power, when everything seems hopeless, when we’ve tried and failed and giving up is the only option, that’s when He is more powerful. Indeed He is a God of impossibilities.
Amen. He creates something out of nothing.
