When Jesus Came After the Eleventh Hour

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”
John 11:23 (NIV)

According to Vocabulary.com, “Things that happen at the eleventh hour occur just in the nick of time, right before it’s too late.” The term ‘eleventh hour’ means “the last possible moment for doing something” (Dictionary.com).

For example, when Nebuchadnezzar threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego into a fiery furnace, the Son of God saved them in the eleventh hour as it were. Had God delayed for a second, the fire would have cremated the Hebrews.

If you had been here, Lazarus Would not have Died

What happens, then, if the eleventh hour passes before God intervenes? When Lazarus was very sick, Mary and Martha sent for Jesus to come and heal their brother. In their eleventh hour, Jesus failed them. Their brother died.

Four days later, Christ visited the mourning family. The sisters did not hide their disappointment. They told Jesus, “if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” (Verse 21 & 32).

Because Jesus controls all the hours, including the eleventh one, He told Martha, “Your brother will rise again.” (Verse 23).

When Jesus Came After the Eleventh Hour

If your eleventh hour has passed, don’t give up. Your dream job is gone. Doctors have given you a few days to live. You have lost all your savings in a collapsed business. Your marriage is no more.

Trust in the God who comes even after the eleventh hour. He gives life to dry dead bones God specializes in the impossible. He will make a way for you where there seems to be no way.

Thank you God because You can intervene in my situation long after the eleventh hour.
