Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!
1 John 3:1 (NKJV)
Some people spend a lot of money tracing their lineage. Those who establish that their ancestors were noble and respectable rejoice. Conversely, realizing one carries genes are of not-so-respectable parents can be disheartening and embarrassing.
Unfortunately, it impossible to have perfect parents. All of us can say with David, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity and in sin my mother conceived me.” (Psalms 51:5).
He Gave the Right to Become Children of God
ow, if you are tired of bearing ancestry, name and reputation you are not proud of, there is hope for you. While you cannot alter your biological makeup, you can change your spiritual ancestry, which matters more.
When you accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour and Lord, you become an heir of eternal life. You are born again. God begins transforming your thinking and character to restore His image in you.
According to Apostle John, “…as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” (John 1:12-13).
Behold What Manner of Love
Congratulations! You are child of God! You have a new Father, ancestry, family and reputation. Your biological ancestry does not matter anymore. Soon, Jesus will return to take your home.
For God to adopt you, a sinner, and to give you His surname, is an act of divine love. Like John you can exclaim, “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on me, that I should be called a child of God!” (1 John 3:1).
Prayer
Thank You, God, for adopting me. I am privileged to call You my Father!
