And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:32 (NKJV)
Whenever I go to minister in a prison, I realize how blessed I am to be free. Being trapped between concrete walls under 24/7 surveillance is dehumanizing. Prison is a form of slavery.
Prisoners’ take dinner before sunset and go to bed before birds. In many cases, they live in crammed facilities with no privacy. Prison guards punish any slight mistake severely.
Convicts have no freedom to think or act as they want. The day they leave jail is their happiest moment.
The Truth Shall Make You Free
Jesus talked of another type of jail that is as restrictive and demeaning as a physical one. It is the sin prison. The LORD stated, “…whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.” (John 8:34).
Sin dominates its slaves. It controls their thoughts and actions. However much they try, they cannot escape this prison. When they are fed up and want to escape, sin threatens them with death.
The only way to escape the sin jail is to follow Jesus’ advice, “…you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32). Only the truth opens the doors of spiritual jail.
Your Only Chance of a Prison Break
What is the truth? According to Jesus, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” (John 14:6). Only Jesus can rescue us from the bondage of sin. Through the indwelling Holy Spirit, we can break free from the chains of sin.
You have no power to overcome sin. Surrender yourself to Jesus and allow Him to lead you out of this jail. This is your only chance of a prison break.
Prayer
Dear Jesus, save me from the bondage of sin.
Ameen..Sin is our greatest problem but our wonderful solution is Jesus. i
And if Jesus sets us free we shall be free indeed, never to turn back behind the bars of sin. “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” John 8:36
Without Jesus, we are slaves to sin. He only can make us free. Thanks, Doc
