Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth!
Isaiah 45:9 (NKJV)
Among celebrities, there is an obsession with plastic surgery. Those who dislike some parts of their bodies spend a fortune to change how they appear. Further, the main reason many ordinary people have not gone under the knife is lack of money.
Similarly, the skin-bleaching industry is booming especially among people of darker complexions. In recent days, also, some light-skinned people have started using chemicals to darken their skins.
The Futility of Arguing with God
How do you think God, the One who created us in his own image, feels when we alter His creation? Is God happy when we argue with Him about what is good or bad for us?
Prophet Isaiah uses beautiful imagery to describe the futility of questioning God’s work:
“Woe to him who strives with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth! Shall the clay say to him who forms it, ‘What are you making?’ Or shall your handiwork say, ‘He has no hands’? (Isaiah 45:9).
Why We Should not Question God
Imagine a pot looking angrily at its maker and demanding to be fashioned differently! Arguing with our Maker implies we are walking in the opposite direction despite clear instructions to the contrary.
God is not our enemy. Like a potter, He knows how best to shape us based on the purpose for which He is moulding us. The only way our lives can be productive and fulfilling is to allow the will of God to prevail in our lives.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I submit myself to Your will. Fashion me as You see best.
