But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
Matthew presents two stories that illustrate the power of and privilege of faith against the consequences of unbelief.
I Have Not Found Such Great Faith
he first story is in Chapter 8. A Roman Centurion approaches Jesus, requesting for the healing of a servant. The Roman official believes that if Jesus utters a word of healing, the sick servant will recover, without Jesus moving an inch!
Jesus marvels at this at this king of faith. He tells his hearers, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” (Matthew 8:10). Jesus grants the centurion’s request. The servant recovers immediately.
He Did Not Do Many Mighty Works Because of their Unbelief
The second story is in Matthew 13. Jesus preaches in his hometown. His village-mates marvel at His teachings. They wonder how one who grew up among them and whose family they kn0w could have such wisdom and miraculous power. They feel offended by Jesus.
Now, note the consequences of their attitude: “Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13:58).
Without Faith it is Impossible to Please God
We conclude that there is a close link between having faith in God and they level of miracles and blessings God bestows on us. As Paul observes:
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6).
Are you enjoying the rewards of faith or suffering from the consequences of unbelief?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, plant the seed of faith in me and nurture it every day.
May God help me have unwavering faith in Him .that i may not have the unbelieving heart that turns away from Him
Amen. That’s my prayer, too, Doc.
Amidst life’s conflicts whether great or small, may God teach me to trust Him more and more
That is the spirit, Hans. Indeed, God will hear that prayer.
May the almighty God teach me to t trust the process as i anchor my Christianity in faith
Amen
