…help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!
2 Chronicles 14:11 (NKJV)
King Asa’s began his reign by eliminating idol worship in Judah. He also “…commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to observe the law and the commandment.” (2 Chronicles 14:4).
Do Not Let Man Prevail Against You
In addition, the king ensured his cities were secure. He also built an army of 580,000 valiant soldiers. However, his army could not match the Ethiopian invaders who came with 1 million warriors and three hundred chariots.
Asa, knowing he had no chance against the enemy, turned to His only source of strength and prayed:
“LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!” (2 Chronicles 14:11).
Let God Fight Your Battles
To Asa this was a battle between the Ethiopians and God. If Israel lost, God would lose, not His people. That is the definition of faith and trust in God. God would not allow mere mortals to dishonor His Name.
If we are obedient to God, we too can pray like Asa. We can invite God in our battles and let Him fight them for us. When we acknowledge our helplessness without God and ask for help, He will contend for us and for His name.
Which challenges will you hand over to God today and ask Him not to let human beings prevail against Him?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You because my battles are Yours. Fight for me and for the sake of Your Name.
May I, like King Asa learn to trust in the lord with all my heart, not to depend on my own might, but let the lord God warrior of Israel fight my battles.
Amen, Doc.
