And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God.
Deuteronomy 28:2 (NKJV)
Social media users often come across messages asking them to like, share or comment on a Christian-oriented post to receive material blessings. A good example is, “Like this post and God will perform a financial miracle for you before the end of the day.”
Because You Obey the Voice of the LORD
People react as urged because they somehow believe God will bless them for reacting to such posts. In some churches, worshippers believe that all they need for God to bless them is to say, “I receive.’
What does the Bible teach about receiving blessings? “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God.” (Deuteronomy 28:2).
The secret to receiving God’s blessings is obedience to spiritual and physical laws. A good example is verse 12, “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand.”
The Secret for Receiving Blessings
Notice that if we obey God, He will send rain in its season then bless the work of our hands. This is the law of planting and harvesting. God gives us the resources we need but we must work to actualize the blessings we seek.
To receive God’s blessings, we must cooperate with Him. Where God has given us the means to produce, faith and work must work in tandem. We cannot substitute faith for obedience or vice versa. Obedience is the principal condition for receiving God’s blessings.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me how to obey You that I may receive my blessings.
