The Secret to Prudent Decision-Making

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 (NKJV)

One of the most important gifts God gave human beings is freedom of choice. Every day, we face situations where we have to choose, with consequences attached. Whether we are choosing what to eat or whether to be born again, we must exercise caution and prudence. We cannot take decision-making lightly.

If Any of You Lacks Wisdom

Unfortunately, “the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. Who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). We can confess with Apostle Paul, “The good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice.” (Romans 7:19).

How, then, can we make decisions that benefit us and please God? The answer is in acquiring divine wisdom. James says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5).

The Secret of Prudent Decision-Making

Before we ask God for wisdom, though, we must remember that “the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:10). When we obey God, we can confidently ask Him for wisdom.

God longs to give us knowledge, understanding, and wisdom to help us make prudent decisions in our spiritual and temporal matters. How much could we accomplish with our gifts and talents if we submitted our minds to the control of divine wisdom? Ask God for wisdom, and watch how He will transform your life!
