Serve the LORD with gladness. Come before His presence with singing.
Psalms 100:2 (NKJV)
When we reflect on Who God is and His goodness towards us, we will spend less time on petitions and more time on thanksgiving and praise in our worship. That is the spirit of Psalms 100.
This is how this sacred song begins, “Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness. Come before His presence with singing.” (Psalms 100:1-2). Notice that we need to have a joyful attitude when we approach God.
Created for My glory…
There is an important reason for coming before God with singing. The Psalmist says, “Know that the LORD, He is God. It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves. We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.” (Psalms 100:3).
We praise God, not just because of the blessings He bestows on us, but because He is God the Creator. None of the goodies we enjoy would be possible if He did not create us. This is how God describes us: “Everyone who is called by My name; Whom I have created for My glory. I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isaiah 43:7).
Enter Into His Gates with Thanksgiving
The remaining verses of Psalms 100 buttress the message in the introduction: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.” (Psalms 100:4-5).
The next time you go to a place of worship, start by thanking and praising God. Spend more time contemplating God’s goodness and grace in your life and less time presenting your needs to Him. After all, does He not know what we need before we ask?
Prayer
Thank you, Father, for your goodness on my life. I will praise you forever.
