Are You in God’s Missing Persons’ Report?

God’s Missing Person’s Report
Daily Devotional – Friday, September 23, 2022

The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master’s crib, but Israel does not know, My people do not consider.
Isaiah 1:3 (NKJV)

It is possible you have come across posters on social media or public spaces seeking for information on a missing person. In most cases, the missing person is a young child that cannot trace home or an old person suffering from chronic forgetfulness or a mental illness.

Israel Does Not Know His Way Home

Did you know that God often has to write missing person’s reports? He did so with the Israelites in the days of Prophet Isaiah. The Lord said, “The ox knows its owner and the donkey its master’s crib, but Israel does not know, My people do not consider.” (Isaiah 1:3).

Domestic animals can find their way home by instinct. In contrast, the Israelites cannot find their way to God. They have rebelled against God so much that they have lost their sense of belonging. Their consciences are unresponsive to the prodding and convicting influence of the Holy Spirit.

God’s Missing Persons’ Report

David knew exactly what to do for God not to declare him a missing person. The psalmist wrote, “Your word I have hidden in my heart that I might not sin against You.” (Psalms 119:11). The word of God, cherished and practiced, is like a compass that guides us home from wherever we may be.

If you are not a student and doer of God’s word and a person of prayer, God has prepared your missing person’s report. He wants you to come back home. He pleads with you, “Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is. And walk in it. Then you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16).

Prayer
Lord Jesus, whenever I forget my way home, please hold my hand and lead me back to You.
