Commit Your Works to the Lord

Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.
Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV)

In the history of space travel, there have been several cases of failed missions and tragedies. These incidences, in an otherwise safe and precise industry, exemplify the fallibility of man. Even when we invest the best technology and employ the best minds, risks abound.

This does not mean that we should not plan. There is very little we can accomplish at individual and corporate levels without adequate and thorough planning. However, if we are to minimize our mistakes and maximize chances of success, we have to look beyond our human abilities.

Commit Your Works to the LORD

King Solomon had this to say about human plans: “The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.” (Proverbs 16:1). In essence, God has the final word on our purposes and plans.

The wise man provides a reason to back his assertion. He says, “All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the spirits.” (Verse 2). Notice that what we call a perfect plan still needs God’s scrutiny and approval.

Therefore, because we do not want to fail, let us heed Solomon’s counsel, “Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.” (Verse 3). In other words, we should subject our plans to the will of God before executing them.

If Your Presence Does Not Go With Us…

We see this principle at work in the life of Moses and the Israelites, when Moses tells God, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here. For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us?” (Exodus 33:15-16).

Review you successes and failures in the recent past. Do you see the presence or absence of God in Your experiences? Would committing your work to the Lord beforehand make a difference?

Normalize starting your day with prayer, Bible study and godly meditation. Practice praying over your plans and projects before you start them. As you implement your plans, seek God’s approval. He will prosper you.

Almighty Father, I commit my works unto You. Prosper me if I am doing Your will. If not, redirect me to the right path.
